For Chrystyna Marie, life is music. The Canadian born singer-songwriter has spent much of her life following her passion, from performing in community plays to forming her own band, Greencat, out of LA.

With the release of Chrystyna’s newest EP, Loaded Gun, she has pursued her musical passion with even more drive – by writing and releasing it on her own.

Upon my first listen of the Loaded Gun EP, I found it to be the perfect fusion of blues and pop. The music is simple and deep, paired with Chrystyna’s unique and raw vocals. It is not hard to believe that her influences include Janis Joplin, because with every word you can feel the emotion in Chrystyna’s voice. The vocals are heavy while melodic, similar in sound to Alison Mosshart of The Dead Weather and The Kills. The title track “Loaded Gun” retains its pop feel through the sing-a-long chorus, making it a song you feel like swaying to whether in a bar or listening to it on your own.

When writing lyrics, Chrystyna uses her own personal experiences in order to convey authentic emotions. She wants to create music that everyone can relate to, or at least music that makes people feel united even if they have not gone through the same experience. For Chrystyna, music helps others build strength while also being a release for herself.

The Loaded Gun EP was released this past February and includes four tracks with the same blues-driven feel. With her extensive performance history, it is likely that you will be able to enjoy Chrystyna’s music live very soon.
