If it isn’t already apparent, we love art and all things creative, especially when collaboration and community events are involved.

Co-Lab Projects is an artist-run nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources, education, and exhibition space to artists that produce contemporary works of art, installation, and performance.

Congress Development Partners generously provided them a temporary gallery located at The Avenue on 8th and Congress in downtown Austin which they aptly named DEMO GALLERY. As the name suggests, the existing structure will then be demolished in Spring 2017 and car-free high-rise apartments will be built in its place. Until then, Co-Lab will program the space with exhibitions for new audiences as they build support for the construction of their permanent studio and gallery space.

Their current exhibition, shown until June 24th, 2016, is “Live Free With Guys” by YOUNGSONS, the collaborative painting duo of Drew Liverman and Michael Ricioppo. Rather than work alongside one another and impose two contrasting sensibilities onto one canvas, the artists trade turns at every stroke, at every idea point and counterpoint from detail to composition. There is a visual rhyming here, a syncopation, perhaps even a punning. They have created a giant mural on the corner of Congress & East 8th Street as well as mounted an exhibition of artwork in the storefront windows and interior of DEMO GALLERY.
