Everyone dies…so we might as well dance! That sounds like an optimal way to accept our inevitable doom if you ask me.

These words come from none other than Marla Mase, a jack-of-all-trades in the art realm who released her newest album, “Miracles Lost and Found” earlier this month.

marlamaseMarla comes from New York where she is a known artist, poet, singer and songwriter. Her fifth album combines her theatrical background with numerous genres including funk, pop, soul and of course rock and roll. Self-released on True Groove Records, “Miracles” is an experimental playground for Marla. She uses every song as a chance to incorporate poetry through her simple but loaded lyrics. The instrumental accompaniment range from classic guitar riffs to sounds that remind me of toys I played with as a child.

To get the full Marla Mase experience, it is essential to watch the music video for her newest single “Everyone Dies.” Marla repeats this phrase throughout perhaps to ensure that it really sinks in. Everyone dies. It is a fact of life because it is a part of life. So what are people supposed to do knowing this? Well, dance of course! And that is what Marla displays. The music video is filled with saturated colors and psychedelic illustrations to further abstract the concepts of living and dying. There is no doubt that it is a catchy tune, with an entertaining video to accompany it. I can see it played at an experimental art and music show held in a warehouse, though I am sure playing it anywhere will give the same effect.

Performance is a large part of Marla’s music. As someone who delves in all fields of creativity, you never quite know what she’ll do but you do know that it will be something that you have never seen before. To keep up to date with Marla’s upcoming releases and shows, visit her website.
