Fire to the Stars

Fire is obviously a recurring theme for Fire to the Stars. However, by simply listening to songs such as “Stay Down,” it may not be apparent without the accompaniment of the music video. Both the music and the filmography represent an essential quality of fire. The song like a slow burn with the minimal instruments and ethereal lyrics. It is the calm before the storm or even the environment in which you deal with the aftermath of such a catastrophe. The music video, which uses excerpts from the award-winning short film “The Death Drive,” provides the ignition for the flames. It follows a young man self-destructing as he reminisces on his past relationship. His memories are filled with love, heartbreak and escape. He allows himself to be engulfed in flames because he cannot bear the weight of what he has lost.

Both the music and film add to the entirety of the experience. Each tells a story while letting the other speak. Fire to the Stars continue to blur the lines between film and music, while creating quiet yet powerful indie tracks. Unlike some recent music videos that seem to be a distant cousin of the song, for Fire to the Stars music and film work in collaboration. Both are essential to fully experience one another.

Engulf yourself in the flames of Fire to the Stars by watching the video for “Stay Down.”
