ESB Mexican American Cultural Center: Connect History and Legacy Through Art

This opportunity invites Austin-based artists and artist-led teams to create site-specific artwork that celebrates the history of place and the iconic ESB Mexican American Cultural Center. The selected artist or team will collaborate with project stakeholders and community advocates to design artwork that increases visibility, appeals to a broader community, and evokes a sense of legacy. This is a chance to showcase your skills in multi-media or sculptural practice and leave a lasting artistic impression.

  • Location: 600 River St, Austin, TX 78701
  • Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old and live in Austin area (Travis, Hays, Williamson, Bastrop, Caldwell, Burnet, and Blanco counties). Must have experience creating 3D work

Bergstrom Spur Urban Trail: Create Artwork That Inspires Discovery

The Bergstrom Spur Urban Trail project is calling for three individual artists or artist-led teams to create unique artwork interventions along the trail. This is your chance to make an impact by designing sculptural or participatory artwork that invites trail users to interpret their own experiences and offers diverse interpretations. Selected artists will collaborate with the project team and Art in Public Places staff to determine placement and integrate the artwork into the trail project.

  • Artwork Budget: Varies based on the trail segments: Eastern Segment: $204,000, Central Segment: $107,000, Western Segment: $64,000
  • Location: 6.5-mile urban trail connecting old Union Pacific main line with the Austin Airport
  • Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old and live in Texas, Must be a professional artist with experience creating sculptural/3D work suitable for outdoors

AUS – Respite: An Airport Quiet Space: Design a Serene and Welcoming Environment

One or more Austin-based artists will have the opportunity to collaboratively design the setting and thematic environment of a contemplative space located post-security at the airport. This project aims to create a calm and serene ambiance through artistic features such as glass walls/doors, lighting features, customized seating, and more. Your artwork can contribute to making the airport experience a ceremonially neutral and welcoming one for local, national, and international travelers.
