“Over the past few months, I’ve been interviewing, photographing and creating one-of-a-kind porcelain portraits to serve as a timeless reminder of the vibrant artistic tapestry of Austin. By adorning walls with these portraits arranged like a family album, the project prompts viewers to reflect on the fleeting nature of the present moment, urging them to appreciate and celebrate the diverse talents shaping their surroundings. Each artist involved was paid a stipend for their time, and got to contribute to the series by suggesting another artist for me to reach out to. I also made impressions of their feet in clay to symbolize ephemeral moments of interaction with individuals in the community.
Each footprint symbolizes a unique encounter and the importance of being grateful for these moments. It invites visitors to reflect on their own interactions and appreciate the significance of each fleeting encounter. It is a visual reminder that the influence of these creatives is ephemeral if we don’t support and acknowledge their unique contribution to our city.
Each portrait was painted on leather hard clay in underglaze. After the piece was bisque fired, detail work was added in underglaze prior to the glaze fire. The frames were hand carved molds made specifically for this series.”
