Listening to Sluka’s newest album, “Introversions,” feels like I have time traveled back to the 1980s.

In both the music and the music videos which he has created to accompany each song, there are elements of David Bowie, U2 and Guns n’ Roses. It’s 80s hair metal vocals fused with upbeat gothic pop rock. The mix-mash of influences could be due to Sluka’s international background. Though born in Chicago, Sluka has lived all over the world, and has been able to garner a significant international fan base over his long musical career.

Sluka – Introversions

Introversions is Sluka’s 10th studio album and he already has plans to release the 11th in the Spring of 2017. He has no plans of slowing down, and considers performing an important element in experiencing his music. While writing and recording new tracks, he has already planned a European tour to begin in November of this year. Watching the few videos he has already released to go along with his new singles, you can get a feel of what a Sluka concert may be like. “Dr. Strangelove” is a more dancy track, with an 80s pop sound and style to match. I think that is what left me confused after listening to most of his songs. They do not feel modern to me. It feels as though Sluka will continue to create similar music with the simple purpose of being able to perform for forever. Though his talent is admirable, I feel his records are more for entertainment, and less about making an impact on the progression of music in general.

Nevertheless, if you have listened to the hits from your favorite 80s goth-pop-rock band too many times to count, Sluka may be able to fill that void. On the plus side, if you really enjoy his music, you can find comfort in the fact that he will continue to release more.
