Issue 17 contributor Bill Tavis, aka TAVIS, is best known for his halftone style. He creates illusions in his art, making faces through patterns and repetition.

Tell us more about your artistic process.
I began making art in 2002 with my video camera. I have learned and experimented with many different art forms since that time. In 2005, I found my halftone style which became my main artistic focus in 2013.

My style is entirely based on halftones, which are a repeating pattern that changes thickness to create an image. I use many different tools to accomplish my art, whether it is traditional hand tools or high tech computer programs I developed myself. Whichever tools I choose, halftones can be very tedious and labor intensive to get right – but the results are worth it!
