Capturing the Soul with Robert Page

Self taught painter Robert Page loves a good challenge—depicting the soul of a human or animal.

His paintings are brimming with thought-provoking surrealist details, sometimes melancholic, other times humorous.He never seems to shy away from experimentation and his Instagram feed is filled with sketches, under paintings and other process work, inviting you to be part of his exciting progress.

¤ Progress. ¤ The contrast has been heighten to show all of the color layers in in the elephant. ¤ Still more highlights and stuff to do before adding the butterfly swarm.

¤ Fairly close to being close… ¤ The butterflies look a little wonky… and I think there needs to be a red ribbon flowing around somewhere… seems a bit too centralized and plain? ¤ I rarely have a fully developed plan of action for the whole of a painting. I like for it to find its own way…it feels more natural, letting the painting evolve into itself. ¤ Anyways…gibberish…
