Local Austin artist, Katie Ryan, draws her inspiration from the world around her.
She describes her paintings as imaginative illustrations of travel, nature and animals. Her work gives a new perspective to otherwise ordinary scenes by combining surreal elements with reality.
I have always been a fan of surreal art, but have found it is difficult to come up with completely original ideas. There are no limits in the surreal world and therefore I find myself staring at a blank canvas with no starting point. Katie seems to use her experiences and imagination when she creates. She has the unique talent of expanding reality to include elements in her art that could only appear in dreams. For me, her artwork is a perfect combination of the familiar and fantasy.
