Issue 14 contributor Brittany Johnson is best known for her use of vibrant colors and colorful portraits of female figures.
What is your artistic process like?
I usually start by choosing a reference photo for my portraits and then decide a color scheme or crop that I find interesting with some sort of idea in mind. If I am painting large scale, I will sketch it out with the spray paint by eye and go from there.
I am learning to better train my eye from live model classes but I also use measurements to help my portraits achieve more of a likeness when using photographs. My paintings tend to shift and change a lot as they develop.
