Issue 17 contributor Jessica Hissam, aka Doxxi, doesn’t follow any strict plan when creating artwork. Her process is a journey that changes every step of the way.
What is your artistic process like?
I believe that as humans we are always dreaming of something, and that something is formed through processing: of our perceptions, our cognitions, and our emotions. When your illustrations are inspired by the significant complexity of humanity, you’re almost forced to become lovers with process.

I’m both blessed and cursed at being absolutely terrible at planning. As a piece comes to be I often find myself all over the place, scrambling to follow where I think it needs to be going. However, the evolution of progressing along—the journey—almost always seems to take you another way and deliver you to exactly where you need to be. Why does it work this way? Couldn’t tell ya—but at least it’s fun.
