Nicholas McCann describes his Desert of the Soul poetry series as his dream state, living state and home state. He shared his poetry in Issue 09, which was themed around dreams.

Desert of the Soul
By Nicholas McCann
I.
O Creator of Dreams, help me be as a child of the desert.
To live freely and to walk humbly in the light.
Amid the infinite sands of time,
Among the cactus prayers of the land.
Allow me drops of water as I go,
’til I reach the great mountain in the sky.
Lead me to the oasis that I seek,
the home in this land,
is all I ask.

II.
Thundering tumbles in my mind,
Building power collides,
My head broken into many pieces.
Roles and duties and dreams flow rivers of water out.
No dam can contain,
No man-made machine endure,
The life of these waters churning into the universe.
All the rivers flow through the desert infinite,
To a land of promise.
Wading through each current, each water, at once,
Yet walking parched through the desert.
I seek refreshment and life in this journey beyond all human knowing.
