Lauren McPhail’s precise compositions are influenced by architecture.

Lauren draws from the experience of standing in a building. The natural lines of perspective she sees among the buildings downtown make their way into her paintings.

Though her hard-edged, colorful work are featured in Issue 19 “Make/Do”, she has also dabbled in more organic, expressive paintings, as seen last year during the Austin Studio Tour.

Lauren has found success in the art world through her dedicated work ethic. Read ahead to learn more.

I feel fortunate to have built an artistic motivation out of being in awe and inspired by other artist’s work and success.

I keep myself constantly immersed as much as I can into anything art related from the social media accounts I follow, the exhibitions I visit, and the discovery of a new, amazing piece of art.

I additionally remove as many external things as possible that are not beneficial to me making my art. My TV remains unplugged, I only keep friends that understand art is first, and any computer time is dedicated to applying to opportunities.

My main motivation to keep going is that I have no choice.

I can’t even go more than 5 days without sketching or painting or I become extremely irritable! The Make/Do for me is that I have no choice in doing so, and I know the more art I make the better it becomes.
